About Rolly Brown

Rolly began his martial art studies in 1973 with two intensive years studying White Crane Gung Fu in San Francisco. In 1975, he began studying Tai Chi, and has continued from that day forth. In those early years, he studied with Kwan Ping style master Guo Lien Ying in S.F., and then with Yang Style master Erle Montaigue in Sydney, Australia, but, since 1981, he has focused on the Cheng Man-Ch’ing lineage of Yang style Tai Chi, with teachers including Maggie Newman, Ben Lo, and Tao Ping Siang, but principally, since 1984, with Grandmaster William C.C. Chen. Rolly has been certified by Grandmaster Chen as a Sifu (“expert teacher”) since 1994. (The graphics below show many of these teachers, roughly in descending order of their importance in my development.)

Rolly has also been a licensed acupuncturist since 1989, maintaining a private practice, and taught acupuncture theory and practice at several acupuncture schools and colleges for 28 years. Semi-retired from private practice now, he still sees previous clients, but refers potential new clients to his respected former students.

Rolly’s most pervasive “footprint” in the world is as a guitarist. A U.S. Nat’l Fingerpicking Champion, he has performed and taught internationally for many years, and continues to stream concerts on Facebook and Youtube twice a week. His instructional videos are distributed world-wide by Stefan Grossman’s Guitar Workshop.
